The Australian
Outback Music Tour will take place from Friday 17 April 2009 to
Friday 1 May 2009. This is our 6th annual Australian Outback
Music Tour.
The tour is a comprehensive
sightseeing tour of a wonderful part of Australia's outback, with musical
entertainment, sing-a-longs, and bush poetry in the evenings. The tour is
also very interesting in terms of Australian history. A large part of the tour -
up to about Birdsville - follows fairly closely the route taken by the Burke and
Wills Expedition in 1860-61 We visit the famous Dig Tree. We also
visit Depot Glen, a shaded waterhole oasis near Tibooburra. Depot Glen was an important
campsite for Charles Sturt's expedition in 1845.
An important feature of
the tour is that we travel in a luxury, air conditioned coach, suitable for the type
of roads we encounter during the tour. Also, we stay in hotel and motel accommodation
throughout the tour. It is not a camping tour. We stay in some very interesting accommodation:
the Grand Hotel and Mildura Hotel in Mildura; the Underground Dug-out Motel in White
Cliffs; four outback hotels full of character (and characters), including two of
Australia's most famous and historic pubs, the Birdsville Hotel and the Innamincka
Hotel , and two extremely interesting establishments in the Flinders Ranges - the
Arkaroola Wildlife Sanctuary & Resort, and the Wilpena Pound Resort
